Poetry & Me

The relationship is more than Intimacy

Growing up in China,

Mother language somehow always stays in the way

In My most unconscious way

Whenever  I go out on a date with English.

For years,

Every time before opening my mouth, prepared to talk

There’s a formula in mind

It’s like a little factory assembly line

Chinese In- Translating - Grammar Check- On Repeat- Complete

Funny,

Sometimes I wonder if to anyone it’s the same

Perhaps it’s just me with my OCD and perfectionist personality.

“The factory” established ten years ago when I first arrived U.S.A.

When I realized how different speaking English in America is from reading through Chinese textbooks.

The ultimate answer to ‘HOW ARE YOU?’

Is not “Fine, Thank You, And You?”

At the beginning I was quiet, I talked slow.

Everyone thought I was shy and introvert.

But No.

I was building this formula for my assembly line.

Today, Same formula still in use.

After Ten years of nonstop running

I was able to deliver way much faster.

Only side effects would be some heart racing and face blushing.

 Occasional blood flow

WRAPPING UP ON PART I

The learning of English is a rather fascinating process to me.

My real English vocabulary input started along with “The Factory” establishment.

I call it a fascinating experience because

Unlike a little baby learning mother language through senses in family oriented environment.

I learned words with more emotional intensity

through Life-changing enlightening moments and heart-breaking Traumatic Experiences Without families around.

PLUS

like all the creatives,

I'm quite specific.

Which made my learning of English rather personal.

Words added to my English dictionary  contain high emotional values

which are usually unlikely to be sensed by others when in use

WRAPPING UP ON PART II

An extraordinary tree over 200 years old in a national park for example

I would hug her, touch her, feel her heart beats

Then tearing unconsciously when having to leave.

Because 99 out of 100 usually couldn't feel what I feel,

I talk less, write more

Writing poems has become my way of expressing.

In-between designed structural lines,

I found

Sensation

Connection

Through Elaboration

I gained

Total liberation
